Certification Requirements for Global Students

Certificate of Eligibility (CE) – for U.S. citizens
Certificate of Qualification (CQ) – for non U.S. citizens

Grade Point Average (CE & CQ)

GPA – All candidates for certification must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 to be recommended for a teaching license by the TCNJ Certification Office.

Basic Skills Requirement (CE & CQ)

Achieve a passing score on ONE of the following tests:
Cut scores to meet basic skills requirement (SAT, ACT, GRE)

Praxis Core – Reading 156, Math 150, Writing 162

SAT – Math 570, 610 Evidence-Based Reading and Writing or 30 Reading Section

ACT – Math 23, English 23

GRE – Quantitative 156, Verbal 155

*If a candidate completed and passed the Pre-Professional Skills Test (PPST / Praxis I) prior to June 2014, the Department will accept passing scores on those exams to satisfy the basic skills requirement (passing scores on the PPST are as follows: Reading: 175, Math: 174, Writing: 173).

Praxis II Scores (CE only)

All teacher candidates must successfully pass the Praxis exam relevant to their course of study and desired certification area.

  1. Select NJ DOE (R7666) as an ETS score recipient when registering for your test
  2. Upload the official score report (including subscores) into the Global Certification Documentation Portal

edTPA Scores (CE only)

All teacher candidates graduating must successfully submit and complete the edTPA as evidenced by a ANY numerical score on an official score report. The edTPA fee is $300, paid directly to when you register.

HIB/Bullying Training (all students via EPSY 523)

All teacher candidates must successfully complete the online training as evidenced by a certificate of completion OR course-embedded training (EPSY 523).
Please be advised that the NJPSA Legal One HIB training website has been updated and is now online.

  1. Create an account at (Only If you did not take EPSY 523 overseas)
  2. Register, receive a password, complete the courses, and take the assessments.
     “Bullying 101 for Educators” and
     “New Jersey Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights”
  3. Save as a PDF the LEGAL ONE Certificate of Completion for each course

If you have taken the EPSY 523 course at a global site, you do NOT need to complete the above training.

NJ Health and Physiology Requirement (CE & CQ)

All teacher candidates must successfully complete a qualifying course in Biological Sciences, BIO104, or register for the Health/Physiology test. Register Now.
